Rod is a Director in our Litigation and Dispute Resolution team, specialising in property, leasing, construction, body corporate disputes, insolvency, insurance, and debt recovery.

With 30 years of experience appearing before Federal and State Courts, QCAT, the Commissioner for Body Corporate and Community Management, and the Australian Financial Complaints Authority, Rod brings deep knowledge and strategic insight to complex commercial disputes.

Construction & Building Disputes

As a member of the Housing Industry Association, Rod regularly advises building owners, developers, builders, suppliers, and subcontractors on construction contracts and disputes, including claims under the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act 2017. He has extensive experience guiding clients through the complexities of builder insolvency and financial distress, ensuring their rights and interests are protected throughout the construction process.

Body Corporate & Community Title

Rod acts for bodies corporate, building managers, and unit owners in disputes arising under the Body Corporate and Community Management Act 1997. His dual expertise in construction law and body corporate matters positions him uniquely to assist clients facing building defect claims and complex community title issues.

Insolvency & Debt Recovery

Rod’s insolvency and debt recovery practice spans multiple industries, including retail and commercial leasing, property development, manufacturing, and transport. He provides strategic advice to liquidators and bankruptcy trustees on insolvency-related matters and creditor claims.

Dispute Resolution Philosophy

Rod views litigation as one component of a broader dispute resolution strategy. He has extensive experience in case appraisal, mediation, pre-trial conferences, and alternative dispute resolution processes, consistently achieving practical outcomes for clients.

Relevant Experience

  • Advising bankruptcy trustees and liquidators on creditor claims, voidable transactions, and complaints by bankrupts and directors.
  • Representing property owners in defective building work claims and disputed insurance matters.
  • Acting for landlords and tenants in commercial leasing disputes involving lease terminations, rent and outgoings, and make-good obligations.
  • Successfully representing a purchaser in the Supreme Court of Queensland (affirmed on appeal) in a claim against a business seller for misleading financial information.
  • Resolving complex access easement disputes between neighbouring bodies corporate.
  • Representing a body corporate in a unit reconstruction claim following water damage, including insurer negotiations.
