John Sneddon is a director in our dispute resolution team where he focusses 
on the resolution of company disputes, commercial litigation, employment law, defamation, and sports law. He also has extensive experience in wills and estates litigation. John has acted in several prominent commercial litigation

Regulatory Law

Representing medical practitioners, dentists, physiotherapists, psychologists and teachers in disciplinary proceedings relating to allegations of misconduct before statutory regulatory authorities and tribunals.

Mediation

John has extensive experience in all forms of alternate dispute resolution. Over the last three decades he has participated in more than 1000 mediations, conciliations, arbitrations and other forms of dispute resolution acting both as an advocate and mediator.

Awards/Recommendations​

John was awarded the Queensland Law Society President’s Medal in 2014 and is a past recipient of the Australian Lawyers’ Alliance Queensland Civil Justice Award.

John was ranked as one of Queensland’s recommended employment lawyers in Doyle’s Guide in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.

In 2024, The Queensland Attorney General recommended the Governor appoint John as a practitioner panel member of the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) for a term of 5 years.

Corporate Experience​

John is an experienced company director and served on the board of Crèche & Kindergarten Association Limited, one of Australia’s largest early childhood education providers, for over a decade. He has provided legal advice to the Board of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, companies in the medical and allied health sectors, school boards, legal profession and indigenous councils in the Northern Territory and North Queensland.

Human Rights​

John has extensive experience representing Australians who have been arrested or imprisoned overseas.  In 2014, he was awarded the Queensland Law Society President’s Medal and the Australian Lawyers’ Alliance Queensland Civil Justice Award for his representation of Marcus Lee, an Australian citizen charged with (and acquitted of) fraud-related offences in Dubai.  He was also a member of the legal team which acted for Peter Greste, an Australian journalist imprisoned in Egypt.  John also provided legal representation to Australian filmmaker James Ricketson during his imprisonment in Cambodia and has assisted Australians to navigate the criminal justice system in Kenya, Qatar, and Ras al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates.
